Have I missed anything, anything at all in the last week? Nobody died?

All good then as I would like to share my wonderful achievement.

Simply put: I climbed this hill in Glen Coe last Tuesday.

The weather was superb, conditions were good and it took 4 and half hours to march to the top of the hill and stagger back down again. By the time I got to the car my legs were trembling with fatigue. But what a wonderful view from the top.

Och I love Scotland.

I did hear a wee rumour about Wacko Jacko but that's a conspiracy by the mad mullahs of Iran to detract from slaughter of the opposition supporters surely?

  I like to have a wee preen aboot it, but I did have a monster hangover when I started out. Not advisable when climbing up the very steep, pointy bits x

    Oh I know that one! I spent a night on a camp site drinking rancid wine only to have to get up at bastard o'clock to go walk through the Peak District. It was not pleasant.

      I smeared my face with Deet, nuclear reactor strength. Made not a jot of difference to the mosquito. Ended up with a bite on my chin resembling a black plague boil together with an eye-burning acid sting from the Deet.

        Now I'm very luck where insect bites are concerned. I have a thick layer of fur so they avoid me for fear of being trapped for life.

  I was up in Perthshire not far from Dunkeld. I have been holidaying in Scotland now for almost 20 years and I feckin' love it up there................apart from those bastard wee midges!! The feckers!!!!!

  Thanks love....I couldn't help but have a little boast about it. I haven't done any hill walking for nearly ten years since I had on operation on my neck for 2 slipped discs. It was a bastid and I never thought I'd be able to do this again. So it was a victory for me.
  
  Now then, have you been up to any pitchfork mischief whilst I was away. I hope you were not responsible for Jacko's heart attack.

  I had a lumpin-bastard of a hangover that day. Cryin' into my wine glass the night before.
  
  However I did actually do two munros!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not on the same day ofcourse. Even I'm not Mary Poppins "practically perfect in every way". But I did a second one in Glen Lyon two days later. Fuckin' ell it was hard work but someone has to do it......

An incomplete post at best! i am a little disappointed in the lack of detail - what did you wear for your climb for instance? It cannot have been anything of a crimplene nature, i now have a picture in my head of you dressed in Tomb Raider gear (Ange style), with a utility belt full of the correct 'tools'.
You are a much braver soul than I that is for sure, I wouldn't have attempted this climb (unless there is a Jimmy Choo store at the top) for love nor money. So, very well done to you. It does look stunningly beautiful x

  I too would love to tell you that I scrambled up in a satin bustle with a corset and a nipped-in 17 inch waist.........
  
  But I'm forced to shatter those illusions sadly.
  
  I was going for the Angelina look from the neck down, again, sadly.
  
  Lycra trackpants from M&S.
  Berghaus walking boots (red).
  A rather jaunty nipped-in nylon waistcoat (yellow)
  Red t-shirt
  Chanel shades.
  
  One HUGE mossie bite on chin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fuck I was angry about that mossie bite as I had liberally sprayed myself with deet. It fucking stinks and burns like a bastard if it gets in your eyes or on your lips.

    Good for Lord Eggers - he seems like a real star. I hate mossies too, am dreading greece next week cos of the little bastards - they don't usually like me - not sweet enough for them, but a few years ago, again in greece they got me. Someone said they don't like marmite, but i thought you had to smear it over yourself (never said i was the brightest button in the box did i?), so I didn't try it!

      The marmite thing seems to work for some people. It's the vitamin B, I think.....
      
      You could try taking vitamin B tablets. I would certainly try that when I next go to Scotland. The deet never worked on me. I have quite a collection of bites. And a lady never scratches but fuck did I scratch.
      
      Someone said Avon's skin lotion "skin so soft" works. The SAS use it when they go training on the Brecon Beacons but again I smeared that on me and it was a complete waste of time.
      
      The nipped-in yellow waistcoat is a firm favourite of mine x

Well done! It looks beautiful but daunting, even with Kendal mint cake reserves. I take my hat off to you - but not my mosquito net burka. For it is fallacy that the bleeding midges don't like marmite eaters. And it is the midges that have put me off from visiting Scotland despite the Scottish blood in me ... or what's left of it after said midges.

  I have yet to find anything that deters the pesky blighters, I must confess. And I have been bitten quite badly which is highly annoying because two of the biggest are on my face. Shock horror. Not for the lack of mosquito repellent I may add. I think if somebody could find the definitive deterent they would be very rich. For you are right, there is nothing that seems to stop 'em!

Did it have a pub at the top? A rule of thumb for hills. no pub at the summit, no point in climbing it!!!!!!!

    The Herdsman was once descrbied to me as being an "orgasnmic mountain"... apparently you just look at the photo and ponder awhiler well now I wouldnt know that, but I did climb the Merrick, a rather stubborn and surly big hill in SW Scotland the other day.
    Well done with the Buachaille anyways eggy, the info on Hope Springs you requested is that its on Sundays 8pm BBC1, featuring DaDa village, the highest in Scotland and where I lived for awee while in 1998, the best company I had there were the sheep...

      It was stobh dubh wot I scrambled up. A wee beastie at over 3000ft. The black peak. Two days later I did another in Glen Lyon but enough of me.
      
      I have been watching Hope Springs and really rather enjoying it on a Sunday evening. And yes I remember our conversation about it. Pity you never had those delighful crims as company. They would have brightened your days, I'm sure. Alex Kingston is quite fit as is Ronnie Ancona. What is the real name behind the town then? I do know Scotland rather well and I can't say I have recognised that place.

        It's called, er, Wanlockhead - an old mining village situated ( read tourist brochure/estate agent "nestling" )nearly 1600ft up in the Lowther Hills. It googles up quite well, you must checkitout sometime, eggy.
        Kind of cross the border, drive up the A74 to Abington services and turn left. Basically.
        
        Its a kind of mini Scotland within Scotland weather-wise (oh joy)... & has its own micro-climate ( read hardly ever stops FW hissing it down).
        Yeah, would have been fun to have those rambunctious Hope Springs chicks around - sadly the ones who made it up for a day or two in the year I was there turned out to be damp squibs, rather.
        One of them, in fact, went on to marry an ironing board.

        I've just watched episode 3 on iPlayer. Missed it when I was up there on holiday as we couldnt' get the bloody TV to work properly.
        
        Loving the programme though. Just a nice gentle romp through murder and fraud is exactly what's called for on a Sunday evening.

        A brief guest at my "Hope Springs" cottage did... all too real about the hubby' fraid, eggy.... and a dictatorial bullying ironing board at that. Shame, she was a very sweet and rare gem of a spiritually bright lady.
        ( She should have mentioned she was a bit of a subbie )
        
        But I guess we all feel deep compulsions from wherever to follow the roads we follow in life... and the inevitable consequences that also follow for us all are supposed to be treated as learning situations.... whatever.
        
        Now! You must try scrambling on Eig, eggy - you know, that miniature Hebredean island where the locals are virtually self-sustaining (and live on omlettes ). But climb its mountain by the established route, or you'll be sure to do a humpty dumpty off the frightening cockscomb of a cliff facing the village. ( You'll know what I mean when you see it! )
